Browns trade pick No. 6 to Chiefs: Full details, picks, impact

The first trade of Thursday night's draft occurred inside the top 10.

The Cleveland Browns agreed to trade the No. 6 overall pick in the Kansas City Chiefs. Cleveland received picks 9, 74 and 148 in exchange. The Chiefs used the sixth pick to select LSU cornerback Mansoor Delane.

Delane allowed 13 receptions and no touchdowns on 358 coverage snaps in 2025. He had 191 tackles, 27 pass breakups, eight interceptions and four forced fumbles during his college career, first at Virginia Tech and then LSU.

Trade grade: BWhy Chiefs made trade

From the Chiefs vantage point, their reasoning is clear.

Kansas City had a huge hole at cornerback after they traded cornerback Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams and then proceeded to lose cornerback Jaylen Watson to the Rams in free agency. McDuffie and Watson were the Chiefs' two starting cornerbacks.

Delane was considered the best cornerback prospect in this year's draft. He's 5-foot-11, moves well and has versatility in man and zone coverage.

However, moving up to No. 6 might've been a reach for Kansas City. Delane might've been available at No. 9 and the Chiefs also have a need at defensive end.

Why Browns made the trade

The Browns traded back to pick offensive tackle Spencer Fano out of Utah. Cleveland is in the process of revamping its O-line. Fano can be plugged in right away at either tackle spot. Cleveland’s originally selection at No. 6 would’ve been considered a little high for Fano.

How Browns, Chiefs trade affects rest of draft board

The Browns have 11 total picks in this year’s draft, including two in the first round. Cleveland has a prime opportunity to inject a lot of fresh talent into a roster that desperately needs it. The Browns have only finished above .500 twice since the 2020 season.
