Coroner Releases New Details of Hayden Panettiere’s Death, Says ‘No Signs of Trauma’ Were Found

On Monday, August 17, the Greenville County Coroner’s Office shared an update regarding her death

On Monday, August 17, the coroner’s office released new details regarding Hayden Panettiere’s death.

One day after the Heroes star was found unresponsive in Greenville, South Carolina, the Greenville County Coroner’s Office announced an autopsy had been completed.

“An autopsy was completed today. At autopsy no signs of trauma were discovered that would have contributed to the death,” read the statement by coroner Mike Ellis. “The cause and manner of death remain pending further investigation and the completion of additional studies. This investigation remains active and ongoing. No further details are available for release at this time.”

The statement also shared details regarding what first responders encountered when they answered the 911 call at approximately 1:51 p.m. on Aug. 16.

“First responders and Emergency Medical Services arrived on scene and located a female in cardiac arrest. EMS personnel initiated advanced cardiac life support measures; however, resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful, and the individual was pronounced deceased at 2:32 PM.”

The individual was identified as Panettiere, who was “found unresponsive inside the residence, where she had been temporarily staying.”

A representative for Panettiere confirmed news of her death on Sunday night, sharing a statement with PEOPLE on behalf of her father, Alan Panettiere.

“It is with profound sadness that we share the tragic passing of our beloved Hayden,” the statement read. “She was an incredible light and a force of nature who brought immeasurable love and joy to all who knew her — and to the millions who watched her onscreen.”

The Greenville Police Department then confirmed to PEOPLE that police and EMS personnel responded to reports of an “unresponsive female” around 1:50 p.m. local time on Sunday. “Upon arrival, medical assistance was administered; however, the individual, later identified as Hayden Panettiere, was pronounced deceased at the scene,” a spokesperson for the department said.

The police spokesperson confirmed that a preliminary investigation had “not indicated any signs of foul play or suspicious circumstances.”

Per TMZ, a friend of the Scream actress alerted authorities to the medical emergency by calling 911.

In dispatch audio obtained by PEOPLE, officials could be heard discussing an “overdose” and “cardiac arrest” around the time of her death.

Panettiere, who began her on-screen career in the ABC soap opera One Life to Live, went on to act in CBS’ Guiding Light, Pixar’s A Bug’s Life, 2000’sRemember the Titans, NBC’s Heroes, Scream 4, Scream 6 and ABC musical drama series Nashville.

Panettiere — who leaves behind 11-year-old daughter Kaya with former fiancé Wladimir Klitschko — released her memoir, This Is Me: A Reckoning, earlier this year. The book detailed her struggles growing up in the spotlight, private addiction battles and more.

“You may laugh a little, cry a little, but most importantly, you’ll hopefully finish it feeling inspired. I’ve grown so much from my experiences,” she told PEOPLE in 2024 ahead of its release. “I hope that this opportunity to further elaborate on that journey may provide a little comfort for those who have faced similar challenges. I’m truly grateful for every lesson, and for the woman I have become today.”
