The Philadelphia Eagles are placing quarterback Jalen Hurts on the injured reserve, meaning the Pro Bowler will have to miss a minimum of four games. He was already set to miss Sunday's contest against the Carolina Panthers.

Hurts is dealing with a superficial blood clot in his calf. The team originally caught it before last Sunday's game in London, but he was deemed medically fit to play. Re-imaging was taken on Wednesday, and the clot was determined to have moved.

On Saturday morning, ESPN Insider Adam Schefter tweeted that the Eagles were not planning on placing Hurts on the IR. Of course, the team changed their tune a few hours later after new conversations.

The team consulted with a host of doctors on Saturday to figure out the best long-term path for Hurts. He will now be sidelined indefinitely.

Hurts will likely start taking anticoagulants, a common blood thinner, this week. Most impacted individuals remain on the medication for at least five weeks.

The Eagles, who have lost three straight games, will turn to Tanner McKee at quarterback in the interim. Hurts will miss, at a minimum, games against the Dallas Cowboys, Washington Commanders, and New York Giants (all divisional contests).

Philadelphia's offense is down to bits and pieces. Star receiver AJ Brown was traded last offseason. Fellow wideout DeVonta Smith is only returning from a multi-week absence.

Running back Saquon Barkley will miss a second straight game. Fellow backs Tank Bigsby and Will Shipley are already on the IR. Fourth-stringer Dameon Pierce will get the most touches out of the backfield on Sunday.

Right tackle Lane Johnson retired earlier in October. Guard Cam Jurgens was traded to the Baltimore Ravens. Fellow guard Landon Dickerson is expected to return from an injury this week.

NFL Network analyst Michael Robinson erroneously insinuated on the network on Friday that Hurts is missing games because he sees the writing on the wall around him.

"If I'm Jalen Hurts, or anybody in Jalen Hurts' camp, I'm saying, 'Well, if everybody's hurt, I'm hurt, too,'" Robinson said. "Guys, I've been cleated before."

"And I'm not saying a superficial blood clot isn't serious. I'm not saying that, but I would advise all of our viewers to Google 'superficial blood clot' rather than a real blood clot. And again, I'm not a medical guy."

However, Robinson faced backlash as fans slammed his insensitive take on a serious situation. NFL Network has received complaints.
