Elizabeth Holmes, who is serving a 135-month sentence after a federal jury found her guilty of conspiracy to commit wire fraud against investors and three counts of wire fraud in January 2022, says in the new documentary You Can See Everythingthat she has never lied in her life.
Holmes, 42, and her romantic partner Billy Evans are documented by Nathan Fielder (Nathan For You, The Rehearsal) in You Can See Everything, which follows the pair and their young children in the 34 days prior to her incarceration at a federal prison in Texas. One of the documentary’s most probing sequences comes relatively early in the nearly 3-hour-long film, in which Fielder asks Holmes about her former company Theranos and whether she ever misled investors, leading them to believe that the technology the company had developed worked when it did not.
Holmes declined to say that she had misled investors. He then asks if she’s ever told a lie in her life.
“I don’t think so,” Holmes replies in the movie, an answer that leaves Fielder visibly stunned. When the documentarian questioned Holmes further, asking whether she’s ever told a “white lie or two” to get out of social engagement with friends and acquaintances, for example, Holmes conceded that she likely has.

In 2022, a federal jury found Holmes guilty of conspiracy to commit wire fraud against investors and three counts of wire fraud involving investments totaling more than $140 million. The jury in her criminal trial acquitted her of a separate conspiracy charge and three counts of wire fraud involving Theranos patients, some of whom testified at trial.

Jurors could not reach verdicts on three additional investor-related charges. At that time, patients testified about receiving inaccurate Theranos test results, including one woman who said she was falsely informed she had tested positive for HIV. In addition to her 11-year prison sentence, Holmes and her ex-boyfriend, Theranos COO Sunny Balwani, were ordered to pay $452 million in joint restitution.
Holmes is currently scheduled to transfer to a halfway house near Austin, Texas in August 2027. Much of Fielder and co-director Lance Oppenheim’s new film covers Fielder’s attempts to understand whether Holmes is simply a poor communicator or an adept manipulator, both in her professional life and her personal dealings with Fielder and his film crew.

Holmes’ partner Evans, with whom she has been in a relationship since 2017, has continued pursuing the couple’s ambitions in medical technology in the years since her criminal conviction. Evans is now developing a new blood-testing company called Haemanthus, which was incorporated in 2024, according to a May 2025 article in The Guardian.
