The backlash Ashley Tisdale's viral essay on her "toxic" mom group has begun.

On Jan. 1, the High School Musical star, who now goes by Ashley Tisdale French after marrying singer Christopher French in 2014, published a revealing personal essay in The Cut chronicling her rocky path out of a group of fellow moms after it "stopped being healthy and positive."

Since the essay's publication, online speculation has been rife with names of potential members in Tisdale French's former group, with many pointing to images Hilary Duff shared to Instagram in 2021 featuring herself, Tisdale French, Mandy Moore, and Meghan Trainor.

None of the potentially implicated moms has spoken out about the essay. But on Tuesday, Duff's husband, the musician Matthew Koma, couldn't help but say his piece.

"Read my new interview with [The Cut]," Koma snarked in a caption over an image of Tisdale French sitting in a chair, but with his face edited onto hers, that he shared to his Instagram story on Tuesday.

The magazine cover-style image bore a set of faux headlines that read, "A mom group tell all through a father's eyes," followed by the line, "When you're the most self obsessed tone deaf person on earth, other moms tend to shift focus to their actual toddlers."

Koma and Duff have been married since 2019. They share three daughters. Tisdale French and her husband, meanwhile, share two daughters the same ages as Duff and Koma's two youngest. Duff and Tisdale have been public about their moms' group since at least 2021.

Duff first shared a set of images from a hangout that included Tisdale French, Moore, and Trainor that year, captioning one shot of a circle of infants laid out on a blanket, "All da babies."

Tisdale French enthused about the group that same year in a now-deleted post detailing a getaway trip, captioned, "Moms weekend away! I love being surrounded by these ladies. What an amazing group of women to journey through this mom-hood together! So grateful for this trip."

Representatives for Duff and Tisdale French couldn't be reached for immediate comment.

Fans added fuel to the fire of speculation by discovering that Tisdale French still follows Trainor, but not Moore or Duff. But a rep for Tisdale French claimed on Monday in a statement to TMZ that she had an entirely different mom group in mind while writing the essay.
