Jeff Probst has his Survivor style staples.

The showrunner, who's doubled as host of the CBS reality series that is entering season 50, has become synonymous with his consistent castaway clothes that he's worn over the past 25 years the series has been on air.

In celebration of the landmark season, Probst sat down with The White Lotus creator and two-time Survivor contestant Mike White for an in-depth conversation about the long-running show, where he revealed the deep significance behind his repetitive outfit.

"What I wear on Survivor is so easily mockable that it’s a Halloween costume for kids. The blue shirt, the hat, the choker, and the shorts. I love it," Probst told White during their chat for Interview Magazine published on Tuesday, Feb. 24.

The host and executive producer was referring to his go-to getup, which typically involves a button-down top in some shade of blue, a pair of khaki pants in varying lengths, his branded Survivor trucker cap and a braided tribal necklace usually adorned with a rock, shell or stone.

While some viewers may view his look as a "shortcut," Probst revealed its tactical.

"I understand it’s a shortcut. It instantly reminds people what world they’re stepping into and what my role is inside it," he explained to White. "The key is, you have to have a sense of humor about it. You can’t take your own mythology too seriously or you’re done."

"For some people, I’m the goofball in the blue shirt and the baseball cap," he continued. "For me, I’m living my own adventure on a stage that allows us to tell these grand, cinematic stories for families about what’s possible if you just say yes."

Survivor 50 premieres on Wednesday, Feb. 25. It will feature a cast of all-stars spanning the series' 25-year history, representing various seasons throughout the first 49, who are no strangers to the show's difficult challenges, bitter backstabbing and dramatic tribal councils.

Ahead of the milestone installment's premiere, Probst told PEOPLE exclusively that by the time the show was 10 seasons in, he realized its staying power.

"I realize, 'Oh, this show could run until all humans die,' " he said. "Because the format is so simple: take a group of strangers, force them to work together while conspiring against each other, and in the end, the jury decides who wins. It’s just what you do with it inside that little box."

Probst isn't the only person who's turned heads with his Survivor outfits. Contestants' clothes, or lack thereof, always become conversation throughout the season — like all-star Angelina Keeley, who made an impression during the "David vs. Goliath" 37th season for her wardrobe negotiation skills.

Speaking to PEOPLE in Fiji just days before filming for Survivor 50 kicked off, Angelina said she is well aware that her "Natalie, can I have your jacket?" line will be top of mind for fans — and she insisted on bringing her own coat this time around so she wouldn't have to beg ousted castmates for theirs.

After having just a sweater to stay warm at night in her original season, Angelina stood firm on bringing better outerwear this go-around.

"I'm not coming back without a jacket. It's me and a jacket or nothing," she said. "I was like, I didn't want to give him an ultimatum, but this is what it is. And I meant it."

"My husband's like, 'Are you willing to walk away for the jacket?' And I said, 'Yeah. I'm not going to play again without a jacket,' " she added.
