Jenny McCarthy is alleging that Tom Cruise once tried to lure her into Scientology.
While speaking to former Scientologist Anne Gollert Hill on the Thursday, Oct. 15 episode ofThe Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg Show, the Masked Singerjudge, 53, claimed that Cruise, 64, once “tried to bring me into Scientology.”
She then recalled an awkward experience at his 2006 wedding to now ex-wife Katie Holmes.
McCarthy, who was dating Jim Carrey at the time, said, “I went to the rehearsal dinner and because I was with Jim, I sat literally across from Tom and Katie… She just had her baby and we’re having dinner and, all of a sudden, I see the nanny bring out the baby over to Katie,” referring to Cruise and Holmes’ daughter Suri, 20.

When she asked if she could hold the couple’s baby girl, McCarthy claims “the entire party” stared at her. “It looked like Rosemary’s Baby. I got the Scientology stare,” she recalled.
McCarthy continued, “Katie slowly passed the baby and I just went, ‘Hi baby,’ because no one was speaking anymore. And then once I gave her back the baby, it’s like everyone went back to their conversations.
“I thought to myself, ‘OK, I am in the belly of the beast right now’… I’ve never been so scared in my life,” she added.
While reflecting on the wedding, McCarthy recalled that Cruise introduced Church of Scientology leader David Miscavige to her as his best man.
“I go, ‘Haha you got picked, congratulations,’ which made it sound demeaning. He did not like that and I loved every second of it,” she said of Miscavige. “… Tom [laughed], trying to cover up the uncomfortable moment.”

When Miscavige gave a 30-minute speech during the ceremony, McCarthy said, “I was watching Katie’s face of just, like, trying to smile and get through it.”

The actress said she and Carrey, 64, hung out with Cruise and Holmes a few times after the couple’s wedding at an Italian castle in November 2006.
“They would come over to our house and I would pull her off to the side and be like, ‘You good, girl? Do you need any help?’ … and at that time she looked like a deer in headlights,” McCarthy said of Holmes. “During the wedding part, she still seemed like Katie. Into the marriage, she seemed like [there was a] shift in her.”
Cruise and Holmes had been married for five years when she filed for divorce in 2012. It was Holmes’s first and only marriage and the third for Cruise, who previously was married to actresses Nicole Kidman, with whom he has two children, and Mimi Rogers.
“This is a personal and private matter for Katie and her family,” said Holmes’s attorney Jonathan Wolfe at the time. “Katie’s primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter’s best interest.”
“Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children. Please allow them their privacy,” Cruise’s rep told PEOPLE.
In 2024, Suri — now 20 — legally changed her last name from “Cruise” to “Noelle.”
