A mass casualty event took place at a sports complex in Wichita, Kansas after a pickup truck plowed through youth soccer fields on Saturday, Oct. 17.
The incident occurred on Saturday around 3:25 pm CT, when Sedgwick County 911 received multiple calls from Stryker Sports Complex on North Greenwich Road in northeast Wichita, roughly 190 miles southwest of Kansas City, Kansas.
Wichita Police wrote on social media it was “investigating a mass casualty incident involving a vehicle,” and later confirmed that a child and an adult have died. According to 12 News, Wichita Police Captain Aaron Moses said “several other people have been taken to the hospital with injuries” and “their conditions were not given.”

Videos from the scene posted on social media show numerous police cars and ambulances at the sports complex while young children in soccer uniforms sat in a group on the fields. Yellow caution tape could be seen around the scene of the incident.
12 News reported that Wichita police officers, other local law enforcement, the Wichita Fire Department, and Sedgwick County EMS all responded at the scene.
A witness told 12 News a “black pickup truck came plowing through the youth soccer fields hitting multiple people before stopping 100-200 yards down the fields. Dozens of emergency responders on scene giving CPR and rendering aid to victims.”

"Wichita Police are on scene of an incident at 2999 Greenwich where injuries are being reported. Stay away from the area. First responders are working to transport the injured," the Wichita Police Department initially shared on social media, before following up with another post stating it was investigating a mass casualty event.
12 News also reported that Moses said the driver of the vehicle, a black truck, is in custody.
Stryker Sports Complex’s official website describes the venue as “Wichita’s all-turf sports complex” that can "accommodate a variety of sports.” The indoor and outdoor facilities host youth and adult soccer leagues and tournaments.
