Miley Cyrus is certainly no stranger to the screen, but she contributes to the latest Avatar installment off-camera, with a new track titled “Dream As One,” which plays during the credits of the newly-released Avatar: Fire and Ash.

Turns out, it wasn’t just her impressive musical discography that got her the gig. Rather, it was thanks to Cyrus pitching herself to director James Cameron at the D23 Expo last year.

“I kind of [threw] it out there as I always do,” she told People, explaining that she met Cameron when the two were honored as Disney Legends at the 2024 event.

“I already knew the answer to, ‘So what have you been up to?’ I know he’s been up to Avatar for a very long time,” the newly-engaged star said. So, she decided to take the opportunity to see if she could contribute to Cameron’s blockbuster franchise, telling him: “Just lemme know if you ever need any music.”

Cyrus recalls that it all happened very “organically,” and she and Cameron have maintained a good friendship ever since. “James actually calls us ‘Legends in law,’” she joked.

Our former Harper’s Bazaar cover star apparently used this same trick when she attended the Oscars this past March. “That’s why I went to the Oscars this year,” she told People. “Everybody that came up and introduced themselves, I said, ‘Well, if you need any music, I’m around.’”

Here’s hoping that some of the filmmakers took Cyrus up on her offer.
