Princess Eugenie announces name of baby girl with nod to late Queen Elizabeth

Princess Eugenie has announced the name of her baby daughter.
The little girl, the third child of Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank, was born on 3 August at a hospital in Lisbon, Portugal.
Her name was revealed on Monday as Adelaide Elizabeth Annina Brooksbank.
Eugenie wrote on Instagram that the baby is “named after three people we love and admire past and present”.
They include her late great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, “who we hold close in our hearts”, Eugenie said.
“Her name is part of English and Portuguese history, two places we love and call home.”

Adelaide of Saxe-Meiningen was Queen of the United Kingdom and of Hanover from 1830 to 1837 as the wife of King William IV.
It has not been confirmed who the name ‘Annina’ refers to, but Eugenie is friends with Countess Annina Bruges von Pfuel, a Bavarian costume designer, and attended her wedding to fellow aristocrat Caspar von Veltheim in 2024.
Eugenie and her husband married in 2018 at St George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle. Their first child, August Philip Hawke Brooksbank, was born in 2021 in London.
Their second child, Ernest George Ronnie Brooksbank, was born in 2023.

Eugenie said that the pair, who she referred to as “Augie and Ernie”, are “already the best big brothers”.
She wrote that the two weeks since Adelaide was born had been “the most special, cosy and love-filled time”.

The baby girl is 15th in line to the throne, behind her brothers. Her birth bumped her great-uncle Prince Edward, the Duke of Edinburgh, to 16th place.
Adelaide is also the 15th great-grandchild of the late Queen Elizabeth, and the fifth grandchild of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor – the former Prince Andrew – and his ex-wife Sarah Ferguson, the former Duchess of York.
She will not be an HRH.
Announcing their daughter’s birth earlier in August, Eugenie wrote on Instagram: “Jack and I are so excited to announce Baby Girl Brooksbank!!”
“We are beyond in love with our girlie.”
Buckingham Palace said that baby Adelaide weighed 6lb 9oz at birth.
Her birth was a rare occasion where a member of the royal family was born overseas. Eugenie and Mr Brooksbank have a home in Portugal and divide their time between there and the UK.
