It must be nice to have money to just throw around like this, hot damn.

During an auction Sunday, a pair of one-of-one New Balance Player Exclusive "Ohtani 1" sneakers that were worn by Los Angeles Dodgers phenom Shohei Ohtani sold for an incredible $440,055. (RELATED: Von Miller Signs With Cowboys On 1-Year Contract: REPORT)

The description of Ohtani's shoes reads, per The Realest:

"The most important baseball shoes ever to reach the open market, worn for Ohtani's first MLB game in Japan and first hit of 2025 in the most-watched MLB game ever in the country [the Opening Game of the 2025 MLB Tokyo Series], a landmark moment bookended by the Dodgers' back-to-back World Series championships, and preserved with Tokyo Dome dirt, a rare kanji signature, and his handwritten 'GU Opening Day Tokyo Series' inscription."

I'm sorry, but I can never imagine spending $440,000 on a pair of shoes.

Don't get me wrong, if I were a uber-millionaire or billionaire, I would definitely spend money on stuff like this if I consider it an investment. In other words, the price has to appreciate.

Like, I get that Shohei Ohtani is going to go down as potentially the greatest player of all-time, but how much can you get from a pair of Tokyo Series cleats?

Give me a load of stocks and cryptocurrency with that kind of money, and in my situation, I'd also clear out some debts. But that's speaking as a broke boy, at least with that last part.

Maybe it's a rich man's mindset ... I could never justify this purchase.
