Taylor Frankie Paul has chosen not to resume filming The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives and deactivated her social media accounts

She previously defended sharing her healing process online, but a source tells PEOPLE Paul is taking a break and focusing on her mental health

Taylor Frankie Paul is stepping away from the spotlight in all areas of her life.

After choosing not to resume filming season 5 of The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives, Paul has also deactivated her social media accounts, including her TikTok and Instagram accounts, which boasted millions of followers.

The #MomTok original content creator has seemingly shut down her accounts with fans noticing that Paul's previously packed pages are no longer active.

A source close to Paul told PEOPLE the reality star is taking a break for her mental health.

"Taylor is a taking a breather," the source said. "It's been a lot last couple months to consume and will be back shortly to continue sharing her story. She'll decide when the time is right to return to filming on Secret Lives."

The move comes after Paul previously shut down a commenter's suggestion that she heal “off social media.”

“That sounds like the reasonable answer, however I will be doing the opposite,” Paul wrote on April 21. “I'll continue sharing on social media showing how ugly healing truly can be.”

She added at the time, “Making and editing videos is my way of processing just like people like to write into a journal.. this is my way and I choose to share it. Saying this with love, most people would need to get off and so understandable [bandaged heart emoji] I'm not most.”

Paul's decision came amid the domestic violence investigations involving her and her ex-boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen.

PEOPLE confirmed on Tuesday, April 21, that The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives will not be filming with Paul or Mortensen when production resumes.

The Hulu series will continue filming following a weeks-long pause amid the domestic assault investigation involving the two.

A source close to Paul told PEOPLE that she "has the option to return" to the reality show, and it's still possible she could make an appearance.

"She's receiving strong support from the cast and producers but is focusing on her kids and mental health issues and recovery from an abusive relationship," the source shared. "She's doing great, and realizing how abusive her relationship actually was."

PEOPLE previously reached out to Hulu and representatives for Paul for comment.

Paul, who is mom to daughter Indy, 8, and son Ocean, 5, with ex-husband, Tate Paul, and son Ever, 2, with Mortensen, has been the subject of controversy after footage of a 2023 domestic incident between her and Mortensen was released in February by TMZ ahead of her planned season of The Bachelorette. For the 2023 incident, Paul pleaded guilty in abeyance to aggravated assault and the other charges were dropped.

Mortensen also made more recent domestic assault allegations against Paul, leading to separate investigations by two Utah police departments.

On March 19, Mortensen filed for a protective order against Paul, while she filed for a protective order of her own against him on April 7, alleging that he had a "pattern of abusive conduct and coercive control" in their relationship and detailing several incidents during which he allegedly acted violently toward her.

On April 14, the Salt Lake County District Attorney's Office announced that they would not be pursuing charges against Paul.

The controversy led to Paul's season of The Bachelorette being pulled last month, three days before its premiere.
