I was an assistant at PEOPLE when The Devil Wears Prada came out in 2006, so as you may imagine, I watched it with great interest. I’m sure it had an influence on me: I never wore anything but at least a 4-inch heel to work (even while commuting; even while pregnant with twins) until the pandemic. And I guess, well, here I am, still working in the media today.

So when it was announced that The Devil Wears Prada 2 was coming out this May, I knew we had to ask Anne Hathaway to be this year’s World’s Most Beautiful cover, and I was so honored that she agreed. During the interview, she and I connected over our New Jersey roots, that we’re both 43—Year of the Dog!—and what it’s like to be a boy mom (her) vs. a girl mom (me). I loved her energy—it was a really fun, chill interview, from someone who admits she wasn’t always all that laid back.

“Turning 40, it was like the dress rehearsal was over,” she says. “I just kind of found a different gear.”

I’m also very excited to feature other A-list stars in the issue. We have Oscar nominee and brand new Revlon spokesperson Teyana Taylor paying homage to the legendary Janet Jackson in our “Icons” act.

“She was super meticulous when it came to embodying Janet,” says editor at large Janine Rubenstein, who was on set in Atlanta.

“She's a fan and a friend of the icon, so she really wanted to do her justice.” (For Janet’s absolutely iconic reaction to our shoot, go to the PEOPLE App.)

We also feature KPop Demon Hunters songwriter and lead singer EJAE. When I met her at the Oscars, I couldn’t believe how humble she was. Here is a woman who never expected to be in front of the camera but became the biggest breakout music star of the year, and what truly shines through is her incredible talent.

In honor of this issue, we also reunited the female cast members from Melrose Place for a nostalgic shoot and interview.

“They told me that they used to work such long hours that they rarely got time to hang out with each other, so this was really fun for them,” says executive director of special projects Andrea Lavinthal, who was on set in Los Angeles. “They're a hilarious and gorgeous group of women, and I left hoping a reboot would happen soon.”

PEOPLE's World's Most Beautiful franchise is not just a celebration of aesthetics. It’s a celebration of women’s resilience, their talent, their friendships, of blazing the trail for others and of honoring those who inspire us.
